Atlanta hip hop authorities, Clan Destined, recently dropped the music video for “Scream” featuring Stacy Epps from their second LP, Self Titled.   The video captures the immanent rawness and intensity of the track, something anyone who’s attended a Clan D set recently can vouch for.  There’s even a surprise ending with an homage to a certain movie scene, but we won’t spoil it for you.

Check out “Scream” featuring Stacy Epps below with the listing for Clan Destined’s next scheduled show.

Soundcheck: Yvette’s ‘Cold Sweat’

by Brett on February 8, 2012

Brooklyn’s Yvette resurfaced recently with a brand new song appropriately titled “Cold Sweat.”  The duo’s effects-laden style shines though in a droning track that consists of thundering drums and screeching guitars mutated into some sort of auditory chimera, and evokes booming feelings ranging from anxiousness to paranoia.  This looks to be a promising year for the Brooklyn twosome if they continue with material like this.  The single officially drops on February 14th.

You can listen to “Cold Sweat” below.

Talented Atlanta producer Drew Briggs aka Divine Interface, recently got together with fellow producer Rekchampa to film a candid interview discussing a variety of topics.  Briggs shares his feelings about his growing genre, his influences, and even gives insight into how he creates his surreal, spaced-out sounding beats.  2011 showed the debut of Divine Interface, and 2012 looks to be the beginning of his takeover.  Our ears are ready, to say the least.

Check out the video below along with Divine Interface’s “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things.”

yU’s Second Album Delivers The Goods

by Brett on February 7, 2012

The EARN is the sophomore effort by Maryland native Michael Willingham Jr. better known as yU.  It’s no secret that for a lot of artists, their second album may be the toughest.  It’s that make or break release that shows whether or not an artist is consistent in the quality of their works, and at the same it is imperative that there is a generous dose of experimentation to prove that they aren’t a mere one-trick pony.  With the EARN, yU shatters these intrinsic doubts.  A master of storytelling, yU rides serene beats while cleverly painting pictures with his razor-sharp tongue.  Each word and each rhyme is artfully constructed creating a fluid album that carries you along a personal journey, giving us a glance at Willingham as both an artist and a person.  While it’s far too early to tell if this is yU’s magnum opus, this release leaves us curiously (and eagerly) wondering how he’s gonna top this one.

The A3C vet is fantastic live as well, check out his next scheduled date with the EARN below.

A plethora of new releases dropped recently from Shigeto, Yamin Semali, All The Saints, Yvette, and a double LP from heRobust.  More details on last weeks releases below:

heRobustLate Night/Morning After LP’s

Atlanta’s Hayden Kramer has been catching the ear of beat junkies for a while with his material under the heRobust alias.  His debut album,  2011′s Albumin, grabbed our attention early and we haven’t been able to look away since.  His sophomore offering is a breathtaking double LP which shows just how far a musician of this caliber can grow in a short year’s time.  It’s still got that signature heRobust sound (the amazing synths, tasty bass, and overarching genius sound design), but Kramer’s development is all too clear as he incorporates new mind boggling tricks to craft a release that will forever cement his place in the genre.

All The SaintsIntro To Fractions

Local rockers, All The Saints, hone their finely tuned rock sound with this second release.  Recorded at various studios all around the city, the album has a (more developed) All The Saints sound, while ensnaring a bit of the nomadic spirit that went into it’s creation.  A thoroughly enjoyable listen from start to finish.

Yamin SemaliWhat I’m Living For

While the name (Yamin Semali) may be fairly new to the tongue, the person is not.  Yamin has been making noise under the moniker AmDex for a while now as the left brain for Atlanta’s Clan Destined.  Yamin’s first proper release shows that he’s a force to be reckoned with as a solo artist as well.  It builds on his previous work and is a short- but-sweet helping of the dope beats and hip hop you already associate with the man.

ShigetoLineage

Zack Saginaw, aka Detroit’s Shigeto, has been a staple of electronic and beat scenes for a while now.  His highly rhythmic spaced-out beats made him a household name amongst audiophiles, and his latest album doesn’t disappoint.  An amalgamation of various types of beats, sounds, melodies, and moods; Lineage takes the listener on a journey and makes you want to listen to it all over again and soon as the last note falls.

Last week, Charlotte rockers and vagabonds, Paint Fumes, released a new music video into the wild.  “Ghost Highway,” the video for song of the same name, displays archived motorcycle footage juxtaposed perfectly against Paint Fumes haunting track.  The whole presentation feels dirty, grimy, and singed; it captures Paint Fumes’ psych/garage rock aesthetic and evokes that devil-may-care feeling mandatory to anyone flirting with the punk rock genre.  Paint Fumes is taking their traveling circus on the road and playing The Basement in East Atlanta, tonight.

You can take a look at “Ghost Highway” below with tonight’s show listing.
