Devonwho Releases New EP

by Toyiah on April 17, 2012

It’s been a while since West Coast DJ Devonwho has released an album. His first solo effort, Funraiser Vol. 1: Thumbtracks, dropped in 2009, sandwiched between a remix album, Thumbtracks Remixes Vol. 1.5 and his three song EP, 3P the same year. Devonwho is back with a slightly different more cohesive sound on his EP, Strangebrew. Complete with guttural bass synth, Strangebrew wets the lips of downtempo fanatic and will leave them craving more.

Listen to Devonwho’s newest EP, Strangebrew below and check out Devonwho when he co-headlines The Left Field Experiment this week.

Chicaloyoh Stops By Atlanta

by Toyiah on April 17, 2012

Alice Dourlen has a knack for making psychedelic trance music. When she’s not doing so with her three piece band Follie Englise, she’s captivating ears under her solo moniker, Chicaloyoh. Dourlen takes a bare minimum approach, playing resonating guitar riffs and notes intertwined with scarce drum beats and echoing vocals. By mixing all of these elements heavily with distorted reverb, Chicaloyoh creates a lonely destitute sound that lingers in the air like a feather. While Chicaloyoh’s sound is soft and hypnotic, it harnesses a raw, grungy energy through her experimentation with the impromptu noise rock sound.

Check out Chicaloyoh’s most recent tracks below and be sure to see her at FREE ACID:

Listen to Mux Mool’s Planet High School

by Toyiah on April 16, 2012

Mux Mool’s name alone is intriguing. When explaining the origin of his alias, Brooklyn native Brian Lindgren stated, “Mux is an abbreviation for ‘multiplexing’ which is the streaming of many types of information through one channel and Chac-Mool is an ancient Meso-American statue of a reclining man.”After a listen of his sophomore album, Planet High School, Mux Mool’s name couldn’t be more self  explanatory of his style. Featuring an array of sounds from airy synth jams to multi-layered complex tracks structured around live instruments mixed with samples, Planet High School is the type of album that is the product of a genre mashing generation. After releasing a slew of EPs and his 2010 debut Skulltaste, Mux Mool has been making a name for himself with his genre mixing G-funk sound, one that needs to be heard on a dance floor surrounded by sweating bodies.

Check out Mux Mool’s sophomore release, Planet High School below and be sure to be on the dance floor for his next two shows:

Deku Releases New EP

by Toyiah on April 12, 2012

Deku is the stage name for Atlanta’s newest up and comer, Brett Leggitt. Releasing his first EP, Beginner’s Luck, Deku’s talent proves to anything but mere luck. Complete with an array of influences from trip hop to shoegaze, Beginner’s Luck is an EP of soft melodic noise that makes a strong resonating impact. Beginner’s Luck consists of mostly atmospheric songs that blend perfectly together for a soothing and serene sound that combines the complexity of electronic music with comforting and relaxing ambiance. The EP hosts a number of songs featuring beautiful strings and synths that are like lullaby’s but quickly transform into placid head nodding sounds that are sure to set calmness to the most frazzled ears to zone out and vibe to.

Check out Deku’s EP, Beginner’s Luck below.

Renowned producer Madlib recently teamed up with Indiana native Freddie Gibbs for a collaboration of gangster proportions with a new song and video aptly titled “Thuggin’.” Madlib’s slow sensual beat on the track allows for Gibbs’ steady deep drawl to flow perfectly over it. Correlating with the song, “Thuggin’s” video sets a menacing scene as it follows Gibbs on a night of debauchery complete with illicit drug use and manufacturing and handling of illegal arms. Shot on a hand held camera with moments of slow motion, “Thuggin’” seeps coolness despite its horrific and terrifying narrative laying out a sinister story that confirms Gibbs’ OG status.

Watch the video for Madlib and Freddie Gibbs’ “Thuggin’” below along with Freddie’s next scheduled in-town date.

Orlando duo and analogue monsters, Attachedhands, make their way into East Atlanta tonight to display their renowned blend of psychedelic noise.  Their sound is something like how you might imagine the sentient dreams of machines sound; endlessly building loops and almost communicative melodies all encompassed by a disarray of effects-laden noise.  Attachedhands equally astounding live set consists of two conductors in a sea of analogue synths spewing slow-building, oscillating waves of melodic patterns crashing with chaotic effects trails.  Get there early, it really should be seen by all psych-appreciators.

Below you can check out a live video of Attachedhands, as well as some of their recorded goodness with tonight’s show listing.
